Águilas Doradas was promoted to the first division in 2011 and has since played in three different cities as home team. Now, the club is on the way to changing its venue again.
According to the criteria of
The club, founded in 2008 by the Salazar Olano family, headed by former professional footballer José Fernando Salazar, initially played in Itagüí, under the name of Itagüí Ditaires, where it achieved promotion in 2010. It remained in that city until 2014, when it was effectively expelled by the mayor at the time, Carlos Andrés Trujillo.
In mid-2014, the team moved to the capital of Risaralda and changed its name to Águilas Pereira. At that time, Deportivo Pereira, the traditional club of that city, was in the B division. However, it did not find a home and in mid-2015 it moved to Rionegro (Antioquia).
The last few years have been difficult for the club, even though in 2023, for the first time in history, it finished first in the round-robin phase and qualified for the Copa Libertadores. In fact, at the end of last year, the mayor of that municipality ordered the sports headquarters to be vacated.
The new alternate headquarters of Águilas Doradas: Sincelejo
Now, Águilas Doradas announced, through a press release, that Dimayor has accepted a new alternate venue for the club. It is Sincelejo.
“Águilas Doradas informs the public that, just like in our society, in the football ecosystem merits are not always rewarded as expected. Despite having been the best team in the round robin phase last year and obtaining participation in the Copa Libertadores, this year the club has not been successful in finding sponsors,” the club said.
“In response to this situation and as part of our corporate responsibility, the city of Sincelejo has generously opened its doors to welcome us. For this reason, we have decided to register Sincelejo as our alternate location.”he added.
The match that Águilas Doradas was scheduled to play on the third date of the League at home, against Patriotas, was postponed by Dimayor and it is still unknown when it will be played.
The capital of the department of Sucre has never had a team in the first division of Colombian football. It did have a place in the B division: Real Sincelejo played in that category between 2002 and 2004 and that position was later taken over by Depor FC.
Then, in 2012, the club had another brief stint in the promotion division: businessman Nelson Soto brought his club to the city, which had previously competed as Girardot FC, Palmira and Pacific FC of Buenaventura. The experiment only lasted one year and the team began competing as a local team in Montería: it is the current Jaguares.
The city has occasionally hosted some A and Copa Colombia matches from clubs such as Junior, Real Cartagena and Jaguares itself, but only in emergency cases.
