The giant hunter: plot, cast and streaming of the film on Italia 1
Tonight, Friday 5 April 2024, at 9.20 pm on Italia 1, Jack the Giant Slayer will be broadcast, a 2013 American fantasy adventure film directed by Bryan Singer and written by Darren Lemke, Christopher McQuarrie and Dan Studney, from a story by Lemke and David Dobkin. The film, based on the British fairy tales “Jack the Giant Killer” and “Jack and the Beanstalk,” stars Nicholas Hoult, Eleanor Tomlinson, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Eddie Marsan and Ewan McGregor. But let's see all the information together in detail.
Plot
Jack is a farmer who lives in the kingdom of Cloister, ruled by the good King Brahmwell, father of Princess Isabelle. As children, Jack and Isabelle were fascinated by a legend according to which monks, in their desire to get closer to God, violated the laws of magic to produce magical beans capable of growing a plant that reached as high as the sky. When they climbed up, however, the monks did not find Paradise, but Gantua, a kingdom suspended in the sky and inhabited by terrible giants, who used the beanstalk to descend on the earth and devastate it, until King Eric forge a magical crown from the heart of a giant, capable of subjugating them. So the giants returned to their kingdom, while the last remaining beans and the crown were buried together with the king.
Having grown up, Jack has lost his parents and lives in poverty with an uncle; he orders him to go to town and sell their white horse and cart to raise some money. In the city the boy saves Isabelle from the harassment of some thugs: the princess is in fact forced by her father not to leave the castle, but, despite her prohibition, she often goes in search of adventures.
Meanwhile, Lord Roderick, the king's advisor and betrothed to Princess Isabelle, discovers that a monk has broken into his apartment, stealing something very precious. The same monk, conspicuously hunted by Roderick's guards, comes across Jack by chance and gives him a bag full of beans in exchange for his horse, with the specific order not to let them get wet. Shortly afterwards the monk is arrested by the guards and brought before Roderick, who, faced with his reticence in speaking, kills him.
Isabelle argues with her father because he keeps her prisoner in the castle while she would like to explore the world; at the same time his uncle scolds Jack for having his horse and cart stolen. During this argument the uncle throws the monk's beans on the ground. The princess runs away and finds refuge in Jack's house. The boy recognizes her and reveals that he is the boy who had intervened in her defense that same morning; the two discover they are very close, but in that instant one of the beans that ends up on the ground is reached by the rainwater and suddenly becomes an enormous plant that rises up to the sky, taking Jack and Isabelle's house with it, while Jack falls out the door and passes out.
