Pistorius said Germans should be ready for war by 2029
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius has called on Germans to take steps to be ready for a possible war by 2029. The German politician is quoted by Focus.
We must be able to fight by 2029. Three topics are of central importance: personnel, technology and finance.
Pistorius said Russia continues to arm itself
The head of the German Ministry of Defense spoke about the situation in Ukraine. According to him, Russia has “long ago switched to a war economy and continues to arm itself.” He also spoke in favor of continuing to provide military assistance to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU). At the same time, Pistorius noted that Germany does not plan to send German soldiers to Ukraine.
It should be clear that a Russian victory will cost us more than the current support for Ukraine
Regarding Germany’s military training, Pistorius proposed bringing back conscription. He called this step an indispensable condition for increasing the country’s combat capability. Compulsory conscription into the German army has been discontinued since 2011, and the country has a fully professional army.
Russia responded to the call of the German Defense Minister to prepare for war
The words of Defense Minister Pistorius about the need to prepare for war with Russia by 2029 are explained by panic over the development of the Ukrainian conflict, State Duma deputy Alexey Chepa said in a conversation with Lenta.ru.
“I don’t know where he got this information from. One can only assume that in view of the development of certain events in Ukraine, when NATO is clearly failing, some comrades are beginning to develop hysterical notes. Sometimes they are included in applications, so it’s just panic,” says the politician.
In turn, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Leonid Drachevsky suggested that the West is afraid to cross the “red lines” drawn by itself in relation to Russia in order to prevent a “big disaster.”
