The French presidency announced on Monday that Prime Minister Elisabeth Bourne had submitted her resignation to President Emmanuel Macron.
The Elysee added that Borne will take care of business until a new government is formed.
This comes at a time when President Macron seeks to give new momentum to his second term before the European Parliament elections and the Olympic Games scheduled in the capital, Paris, this summer.
Macron sparked speculation about a government reshuffle in December by promising a new policy initiative.
During her twenty-month tenure as prime minister, Borne implemented an amendment to the pension system and immigration law that was approved last December and led to divisions emerging within Macron's camp. Some representatives supporting President Macron voted against this law.
Borne was appointed prime minister in mid-2022, shortly after Macron won a second presidential term.
