According to the French army, the extremist leader, who was neutralized in a strike against terrorist organizations in the region, was supervising financial and logistical affairs.
Djawadi, also known as “Abu Ammar al-Jazaery”, was killed on the night of February 25-26 in an area located about 160 km north of Timbuktu in central Mali, according to a statement by the French army.
And last February, France and its European partners involved in the fight against extremists in Mali announced that they had decided to start a coordinated military withdrawal from the African country.
And they added, in a statement, that they agreed to make plans on how to stay in the region, especially Niger and the Gulf of Guinea states, by June 2022.
Relations between Paris and Bamako have deteriorated since the junta backed away from an agreement to organize elections in February and proposed to keep power until 2025.
The military council has also deployed private contractors from Russia, which some European countries have said contradicts its mission.
