The former vice president of the Junta de Castilla y León Francisco Igea, the only representative of Ciudadanos in the Autonomous Courts, is admitted to a hospital in Valladolid, as he himself has reported through his Twitter account, for which he himself, a doctor by profession, has defined it as an “episode of doubtful angina”. Igea, 57, explained in a message that this Wednesday he was going to undergo a catheterization “to see the state of the pipes”, an ordinary test in the field of cardiology. Sources close to him insist that it is a mild condition and that Igea has commissioned them to convey that he has “a lot of war to give” and that he “comes back right away.” Sources around him have reported at 11:00 this Wednesday that he had already undergone the tests. “The catheterization reveals that he suffered a cardiac arrhythmia, but it is normal and he will soon be discharged,” they added. They trust that he could leave the hospital that afternoon or tomorrow morning.

The former vice president of the Board has slept at the University Clinical Hospital of Valladolid, the city where he resides, where he went on Tuesday afternoon when he was not feeling well, according to sources close to him. The only attorney for Ciudadanos was yesterday, Tuesday, in the Cortes of Castilla y León to meet with the PP negotiating team in search of possible investiture agreements. The acting president, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, has met with the representatives of all the parties except those who only have a regional representative, such as Ciudadanos or United We Can, who were summoned this Tuesday with other PP positions. Mañueco avoided meeting his former government partner, whom he removed from his duties on December 20 by calling the elections that he ended up winning, but without sufficient numbers to govern alone, as he intended, and with the shadow of Vox as the only possible ally.

Francisco Igea attended the meeting as normal yesterday and gave a press conference in which he explained his position, in favor of large pacts that isolate the extreme right, a difficult idea due to the differences between blocs. Afterwards, he spent until lunchtime in the Cortes cafeteria talking with Pablo Fernández, leader of Unidas Podemos in the community, and late in the afternoon he went to the hospital.

The former vice president has lived through an intense electoral campaign in which he has tried to prevent Citizens from disappearing in the territory due to the bad national drift. The results gave him a seat, which he himself occupies for Valladolid, a balance that the party has valued because the polls predicted a high probability of disappearing from the hemicycle.

At the national level, the leader of Cs for Castilla y León led the faction that faced the current president of the formation, Inés Arrimadas, in the 2020 primaries. The victory of the Arrimadas sector pitted Igea against the party’s national board , which withdrew his organic positions, but continued with his own weight in the regional government, since the 12 attorneys he obtained in 2019 served him to form an Executive with the PP and occupy the vice presidency until he was dismissed by Mañueco along with the other three councilors of CS in December. During the 2019 campaign, Igea opened up to allying himself with the PSOE to end the PP’s command, uninterrupted since 1987, but he always maintained, despite intensely defending Mañueco during his joint mandate, that they ended up in coalition with the Conservatives for order of the then national leader of Ciudadanos, Albert Rivera.
