The prosecutor’s office asks for 17 years in prison for the former head of the Department of the Ministry of Defense Kurakin
The prosecutor’s office is asking Dmitry Kurakin, the former head of the Ministry of Defense department, to serve 17 years in a maximum security colony. About this reports RBC.
He is accused of organizing illegal large-scale deforestation on the territory of military units, which was then sold to China. The total damage exceeded four billion rubles. The criminal scheme invented by Kurakin has been used in the Western Military District since 2014.
Kurakin is charged with Articles 290 (“Taking a bribe”), 285 (“Abuse of official powers”), 223 (“Illegal manufacture of weapons”) and 222 (“Illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transportation, forwarding or carrying of weapons, main parts firearms, ammunition”) of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
Also involved in the case are two of his accomplices – first deputy Vladislav Kholodkov and the head of the Oboronspetsresurs company Maxim An, they are suspected of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale. The prosecutor’s office is asking for 14 years in a maximum security colony and a fine of 369 million rubles.
Earlier it was reported that the deputy head of the government of the Moscow region, detained by the FSB, was sent to a pre-trial detention center.
