Villefranche is a small town in the Vosges mountain range surrounded by spectacular forests and where the homicide rate is six times higher than the average. In other words: it is the perfect place for both seasons of White zonewhich translated means zone without coverage, with that French aftertaste for metaphors capable of calling little death to orgasm.
A series in which, it must be said, little space is left for carnal pleasure, a lot for homicides and an immensity for the splendid forest, the true protagonist of this intense and notable Franco-Belgian series in which the major Laurène Weiss , in charge of the small local police station, must face a series of crimes linked to a monstrous being that lives in the omnipresent forest.
And as it could not be less, the elder Weiss also has a complicated past after being kidnapped and chained – naturally in the forest -, an event for which she lost two fingers on her hand. Of course, her subordinates don’t have an immaculate resume either. Villefranche scores a lot.
And like any series worth its salt, in White zone (Netflix) there is a little bit of everything: a villain, owner and lord of almost the entire town, a missing teenager, a bar much more important than the library, if there is one, and a clumsy prosecutor who is determined to find the culprit. of so many crimes with the help of the oldest. Of course, with so much forest without cover, a touch of magical realism could not be missing.
Someday we would have to analyze Macondo’s influence on police series. Until then, a word of advice: don’t bring mobile phones to Villefranche.
