On New Year’s Eve in Moscow, thermometer readings will significantly exceed the multiyear norm. This was announced on Sunday, December 26, by a leading employee of the Phobos weather center, Yevgeny Tishkovets.
He explained that by the end of December, cyclones will activate in the atmosphere, and the west-east transfer of air masses will gradually be established, so it will not do without small local snowfalls.
“The thermometer readings will not only return to their climatic channel by December 30, but in the next two days they will significantly exceed the multiyear norm. On the last day of December and on New Year’s Eve, the thermometers will fluctuate from -1 to -6 degrees, and on the first day of January it will warm to zero, “Tishkovets wrote on his Instagram page.
On December 24, Tishkovets announced that a powerful cyclone “Quintinus” was approaching Moscow. In addition, residents of the capital were warned of surges in atmospheric pressure on December 27-29.
On December 23, the chief specialist of the Moscow meteorological office, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, explained to Izvestia why “ice needles”, or rare diamond dust, could be observed in the capital. According to her, the weather was very frosty, and because of this, the lower layer of the air became very cold, and the upper layer, on the contrary, warmed up. And there, at a high altitude, ice crystals, or needles, formed.
