América and Cruz Azul share one of the most important rivalries in Mexican soccer. However, throughout history, these teams have shared some of their figures. The most recent are Jonathan Rodríguez and Néstor Araujo, who returned to Liga MX with the azulcremas. These are the most outstanding footballers who have played for both the Águilas and the Celeste Machine:

The ‘Tarzan’ Palacios played for both Cruz Azul and America in the 1960s and 1970s. He was Liga MX champion with both squads.
The striker emerged in the Águilas del América and won a league championship. However, he later went to the sky blue ranks and became one of the great historical idols of the team. He won five Liga MX titles with the Machine and is one of the top scorers, second only to Carlos Hermosillo.
Cesáreo Victorino Ramírez is one of the greatest legends of Cruz Azul: he won four Liga MX championships, was a cup champion, Champion of Champions and three-time Concacaf champion. He later played with América and also won the Liga MX.
The defender and midfielder was part of the Cruz Azul squad in the 1960s. Five of his 11 titles were in the league and at the end of his career he went to Coapa where he was champion of Liga MX on one occasion.
The Argentine soccer player came to Mexican soccer in 1974 to play with América, where he spent four years and won a Liga MX championship. Between 1978 and 1981 he was part of the Machine where he won two league championships.
He left the basic forces of Cruz Azul and in the 1978-79 and 1979-80 seasons he won the league. Between 1986 and 1989 he was league champion twice with Liga MX. He is the only player who has been a two-time league champion with both teams.
Carlos Hermosillo was a figure in both squads. The ‘Big One from Cerro Azul’ came from the América youth academy and played for the club in two stages: between 1983 and 1989 and in 2000. With the Águilas he scored 93 goals. With Cruz Azul he played from 1991 to 1998 and in this period he scored 196 goals. With the azulcremas he won five Liga MX titles and with the cementeros one more.
The Paraguayan defender signed with América in Clausura 2014. In this squad he won three titles: one in Liga MX and two in the Concacaf Champions League. In the Apertura 2018 he arrived at the Machine and won the Copa MX, Supercopa MX and the Guard1anes Clausura 2021.
He played with América between the Apertura 2012 and Clausura 2014 and won the Liga MX title in the Clausura 2013. He arrived at Cruz Azul in the Apertura 2016 and was champion of Copa MX, Supercopa MX and Guardianes 2021.
Néstor Araujo trained at Cruz Azul and won a Copa MX with the team in the Clausura 2013. That same year he left the Machine and went to Santos Laguna, where he lived his best moments in Mexico. After four solid seasons at Celta de Vigo, Araujo will play for América.
‘Cabecita’ is one of the great signings of America this season. The Uruguayan returns to Liga MX after a poor semester in Saudi Arabia. Just 6 months after leaving Cruz Azul and just over a year of being vital in the Machine’s ninth Liga MX title, Rodríguez will play with the Águilas.
