A fisherman from Missouri (USA) caught the rarest blue catfish of a variegated color on the Mississippi River and released it. About it informs News Channel 8 website.
Chad Hester went on a night fishing trip with a friend and caught the rarest blue catfish. He used carp as bait.
The fish he caught turned out to be unique, as it had white and black markings on its body. Hester quickly photographed and weighed the catch. The fish weighed 16 kilograms. After that, he released the fish into the river. “This way he can spread his genes in the wild, and someone else may be able to catch him,” the fisherman explained.
Hester plans to turn to specialists who can create a replica of the fish he has caught so he can hang it on the wall in his living room. The American has been fishing since childhood, his father taught him to do it. Hester stated that fishing helps him take his mind off his problems.
Variegated blue catfish differ from ordinary ones in that their white skin is covered with spots. This feature makes fish more vulnerable, as this color is more visible to predators. This mutation is very rare in blue catfish. Fishing enthusiasts believe that catching a variegated blue catfish is a great success. For tens of thousands of common catfish, there are one or two cases of catch of the variegated blue catfish.
Blue catfish (Ictalurus furcatus) are found in North America. These fish grow up to 165 centimeters in length and weigh up to 68 kilograms.
Earlier it was reported that in the US state of West Virginia, a fisherman caught a large blue catfish and set a new record. The length of the fish was 127.81 centimeters, and the weight was 24.88 kilograms.
