The Aemet activated the orange warning in the north and yellow in Vega del Segura and Murcia due to strong storms, but the storm hardly leaves any rain or incidents
The month of September is considered a window between the summer and autumn seasons. It is a time of transition, characterized by an increase in atmospheric dynamism and meteorological instability. This is how Luis Bañón, from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) in Murcia, states that the DANA that has traveled the Peninsula
it has affected the Region marginally.
«In general, we are in a situation of blockade, which we call ‘rex type’,
triggered by an anticyclone in the British Isles and the influence of a storm that have been fed by very humid and warm air from the Mediterranean to the south. This has caused this episode of storms to have had a special virulence in some areas of Spain, although in the Region its influence has been limited, “he explains. The meteorologist states that storm episodes are very difficult to predict “since what is analyzed are the confluence of ingredients for these to occur, hence the warnings are activated; Another thing is that in the end they materialize ».
In the Community, DANA arrived late and somewhat weakened and Aemet activated alerts yesterday, between three in the afternoon and midnight, of
orange level in the Altiplano and Northwest due to storms of up to 30 liters per square meter in one hour, and yellow warning in Vega Alta del Segura and Murcia due to heavy rains. Faced with this alert, the Community decreed the pre-emergency phase of the Special Plan for Civil Protection against Flood Risk (Inunmur Plan).
For its part, the Murcia City Council activated a special device made up of different municipal services such as Local Police, Firefighters, Traffic, Street Cleaning, Public Lighting and Parks and Gardens, as well as the Mobile Emergency Service and Social Assistance (SEMAS).
However, the emergency coordination center
112 hardly registered incidents due to the episode of rains, which were very localized and of slight intensity. The areas where there was more rainfall, as shown by the predictive models of the Aemet, were the northernmost towns of the Northwest region, such as Benizar, and as the afternoon progressed, the storm moved west, being carried away by the guiding flow blowing in that direction. Thus, at night he entered through the north of Calasparra and came to touch the Vega del Segura, the Altiplano and Murcia.
Light showers for today
The instability event lasted until dawn and the last blows could still be seen this Thursday with showers located in the Altiplano, the Northwest and Murcia. Rainfall can extend even into the early hours of the morning,
although if they occur they would be very weak.
«The storm will continue to be present, with cloudiness and some isolated storm, but it will be very localized. This is not an episode of generalized rains. It is very limited to the north of the Community, and in the rest of the Region –Valle del Guadalentín and Campo de Cartagena– high clouds and clear skies will remain ”, clarifies Bañón.
Looking to the weekend, the situation will begin to stabilize and it will be a period of stability between storms, as another storm is expected next week. As for temperatures, DANA has brought with it a slight drop in mercury, and it will only cool the environment a couple of degrees below the current maximum, hovering around 30ºC throughout the regional territory.
