Traffic warns that not complying with these administrative procedures also entails economic sanctions and points
The DGT has changed this year many of the rules to be taken into account by drivers when the new Traffic Law comes into force. This regulation introduces important novelties, such as the increase in the loss of points or the fines for some infractions, greater safety for cyclists, the 0 rate for minors or the maximum speed for overtaking on conventional roads.
However, there are also other old obligations that drivers must strictly comply with and that can sometimes be overlooked, which is a risk because they involve loss of points and financial penalties. Not just violations like speed limits or seat belts; Complying with all administrative procedures is also essential in order not to expose yourself to a fine.
In fact, not carrying several documents can mean fines of up to 500 euros in total. And, obviously, also the loss of points. There are four documents that cannot be missing: car insurance, driver’s license, vehicle permit and technical inspection card.
The four essential documents
The penalty for not having a driver’s license when people request it is one of the lowest: 10 euros. However, the fine can be raised to 80 if it is not in order or some data is wrong. If it is expired, it goes up to 200. And up to 500 euros and 4 points if the driver’s license has been withdrawn.
As for insurance, it is not mandatory to have it in the vehicle, but it is necessary to have it. If the document is not valid or the person lacks that insurance, the fine ranges between 600 and 3,000 euros. On the other hand, driving without carrying the technical inspection card in the car is sanctioned, as in the case of the license, with 10 euros. But things change if it is expired: the fine amounts to 200 euros. And if the permit is not valid either, it goes up to 500 euros.
