The West was preparing Ukraine for a large-scale provocation against Russia. On Friday, March 4, said “RIA News» Senator Konstantin Dolgov.
“Ukraine was being prepared for provocations and, apparently, they were preparing for a very serious and large-scale provocation against Russia. Not by chance [президент Украины Владимир] Zelensky “suddenly” started talking about the need for nuclear weapons in Ukraine, that Ukraine, they say, is free, in fact, from obligations under the Budapest Memorandum. Where is the reaction to this in Washington, Berlin, other Western countries, where is the reaction of NATO to this? the MP says.
This is a direct challenge to the nuclear non-proliferation regime, the senator added. According to him, there was a real threat that Kyiv would receive nuclear weapons.
“Therefore, one way or another, the threat to Russia’s security, which has existed and intensified for many years on the territory of Ukraine, has moved to a qualitatively different level. If Ukraine were in NATO, then the flight time of missiles to the key centers of the European part of Russia would be a matter of minutes, ”summed up Dolgov.
A day earlier, the director of the Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), Sergei Naryshkin, said that the West seeks not only to revive the Iron Curtain, but also to destroy Russia.
Naryshkin explained that these attempts are being implemented under the slogan of the need to protect the sovereignty of Ukraine and European security. In addition, he noted that there is evidence of Kyiv’s intention to acquire nuclear weapons.
The Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service stressed that over the past 30 years Moscow has ensured that neighboring states are not used for the deployment of “hostile activities.”
On the same day, Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a conversation with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, presented arguments indicating a significant “role of neo-Nazis in the state policy of Kyiv.”
As Putin pointed out, the Armed Forces (AF) of the Russian Federation, during the operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass, will continue to fight against militants of nationalist armed groups, and will also fulfill the tasks of demilitarizing Ukraine.
The situation in Donbass escalated on February 17. In the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DPR and LPR), heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons, was reported. The republics announced a general mobilization, the evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia and asked for recognition of independence.
On February 21, Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics, as well as treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with the republics. The documents were ratified the next day.
On February 24, the President of Russia announced the launch of an operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass.
