The so-called Ukraine Security Guarantee Project, which was introduced by the office of President Volodymyr Zelensky, is in fact Ukraine’s “danger guarantees” for Russia and provides Kyiv with impunity for its predictably aggressive behavior. This opinion was expressed on Tuesday, September 13, by the vice-speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev.
“The Office of the President of Ukraine presented recommendations on security guarantees for Ukraine, developed on behalf of President Zelensky and ex-NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen. However, even a cursory glance at this document confirms that it is more about “guarantees of the danger” of Ukraine for Russia and the West providing Kyiv with impunity for its predictably aggressive behavior,” Kosachev wrote in his Telegram channel.
The vice speaker stressed that the document refers to clear obligations of the guarantor countries to arm the Ukrainian military, to support Ukraine with anti-Russian sanctions, including preventive and other measures.
At the same time, the Vice Speaker of the Federation Council believes that the topic of guarantees was raised in time, because military special operation in Ukraine was the result of the defiant refusal of the West to guarantee the security of Russia. And thus – to Ukraine, to all other European states, Kosachev added.
“In my opinion, our main task is to literally explain to every European, every voter of the NATO countries and aspirants to the alliance, that today they are sitting in the cold and with huge inflation, not for the sake of the Ukrainian people, but solely because of the desire of their rulers to expand NATO. , regardless of the interests of Russia. Because of their fundamental refusal to give reliable security guarantees to a neighboring nuclear power,” the vice speaker emphasized.
Kosachev added that NATO expansion is more important for Western countries than peace, security, prosperity, cheap raw materials, mutually beneficial cooperation and the risks of a nuclear conflict.
On September 13, the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky published a draft on guarantees for the country’s security. Kyiv offers the countries of the European Union, the USA, the UK, Turkey and Australia as guarantors.
Under the treaty, a core group of allies is expected to commit to supporting Ukrainian forces, while a broader group “will provide non-military guarantees built around sanctions mechanisms.” Also, additional security guarantees for Ukraine may include the supply of modern air defense and missile defense systems to Kyiv.
On the same day, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that the Ukrainian project of “security guarantees” is a prologue to the third world war. He noted that such a project for NATO is the same as the application of the fifth article of the North Atlantic Pact.
Also, “Safety Guarantees” was criticized in the State Duma. The head of the international affairs committee, Leonid Slutsky, said that the aim of the project is the desire of the West to continue to resist Russia “on the Ukrainian foothold.”
On August 23, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev said that the Kyiv regime continues to invent for itself some kind of “security guarantees” for the future, but it is already clear to everyone that no neighboring states can give them such guarantees, even if they “very hate Russia” .
In early April, Ukraine exchanged draft documents on security guarantees with a number of countries. Then Zelensky pointed out that Kyiv needed security guarantees from leading states. At the same time, he stressed that we can talk about both NATO member countries and states that are not members of the alliance.
