Russian Senator, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation Vladimir Krugly is convinced that the new COVID-19 strain “Omicron” is already in Russia. The new variant of the virus is being brought into the country by tourists who have come from Egypt, the politician said.
“The Omicron strain is most likely already in Russia. The source of its distribution (in the Russian Federation) are our people who visited Egypt, “he said in an interview with”RIA News” November 28.
The senator stressed the need to restrict air traffic with Egypt until the new strain is sufficiently studied.
Earlier that day, doctors from South Africa said that the new Omicron coronavirus strain is rapidly spreading among people between the ages of 20 and 30. At the same time, many patients are admitted to hospitals with moderate and severe illnesses, some of them need intensive care.

A day earlier, the head of the World Medical Association (WMA) Frank Ulrich Montgomery expressed concern over the spread of a new strain of coronavirus. According to him, the new variant of the virus can be comparable to Ebola in terms of the degree of danger.
