The Ivorian midfielder ends his contract with AC Milan in less than four months and is ready to negotiate with other clubs for the summer. Despite the fact that he is a good free signing, we believe that at Can Barça they do not need such a profile.
Franck Kessié is a midfielder with a career that we have seen at different levels in the midfield, occupying the role of pivot, interior and even midfielder on fewer occasions. When he acts in that first one, he tends to do it with a more positional companion, so we find ourselves with a case similar to that of Frenkie De Jong even though they are not similar footballers.
FC Barcelona needs to find a replacement for Sergio Busquets, who will turn 34 in July and has a high contract until 2023. Although he can still give several seasons of good performance, it will be important to find a pivot with a positional role to supply him in the next years.
Franck Kessié’s virtues are not precisely because he is a footballer who watches over his midfield teammates, but rather requires that kind of player by his side. In that sense, Xavi Hernández has a list of very interesting players at the present and future level as interior players such as Frenkie De Jong, Pedri González, Pablo Páez “Gavi” or Nicolás González.
In this way, we believe that the Ivorian is not a necessary profile despite the temptation of such a signing without transfer cost. It would be interesting to find a profile more similar to Sergio Busquets because it fits into the system proposed by the coach from Egar and reinforce other plots beyond the interior, which is well covered.
