The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge announced on their official page in Instagram about the loss that befell their family: their beloved dog died.
“Unfortunately, our dear dog Lupo passed away last weekend. He has been the heart of our family for the past nine years and will be greatly missed.“- said in the post of Prince William and Kate Middleton.
The Black English Cocker Spaniel was a descendant of a dog that belonged to the Duchess’s parents, Michael and Carol Middleton. Lupo was given to Kate and William for their 2011 wedding. The dog often appeared in family photographs – including the first official portraits of the eldest son of the spouses, Prince George. The dog was even rumored to have helped choose a name for Kate and William’s firstborn. The couple wrote names on pieces of paper and scattered them on the floor. Lupo became interested in the name “George.”
In an interview after the birth of a child in 2013, Prince William said: “For me, my priorities are Catherine and little George. And Lupo. “
And Kate in 2014, during a trip to Australia and New Zealand, admitted that she missed the dog when she was presented with a gift for her pet. “Everyone gives George gifts, but no one knows how much I miss my dog. This is the first gift I received for my dog and I am very happy because I really miss him.“, – she said.
“For those who have never owned a dog, it can be difficult to understand loss. However, those who have loved a dog know the truth: a dog is not just a pet. This is a family member, best friend, loyal companion, teacher and therapist.“, – wrote on his Instagram younger brother Kate James Middleton. He himself has seven dogs in his house.
