Media, social media accounts and far-right politicians rushed once again this Wednesday to link the murder of a taxi driver last Tuesday in the Madrid town of Alcalá de Henares with a person of Moroccan nationality despite the fact that the perpetrator, a minor under 16 years of age and born in Miranda de Ebro, has Spanish nationality.
The events occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, October 16, in the town of Complutense, when the minor took a taxi on the central Avenida de los Reyes Católicos and, after more than an hour and a half of traveling through the town, made the taxi driver go to the Alcalá hospital where he stabbed him up to five times. The man died as a result of his injuries early Wednesday.
The victim, a 62-year-old taxi driver named Isidro, had recording equipment inside his vehicle, which caused images of the perpetrator of the crime to begin to be made public late on Tuesday. These images were first spread by the stabbed man’s companions and even by television programs such as La afternoon AR, despite the fact that he was a minor.
Once the dissemination of the images began, publications that identify the alleged murderer as “Moor“, “ore” either “younglander”. The National Police has confirmed to different media, including Europa Press, that the person arrested this Wednesday, October 17, is indeed a minor (he is 16 years old) and of Spanish nationality.
Despite this, political representatives such as the former vice president of the Junta de Castilla y León, the leader of Vox Juan García-Gallardo Frings, did not hesitate to affirm that Isidro had been murdered “for another moro”.
Some of them, like the pseudomedia Herqleshave already begun to eliminate their publications due to information that contradicts the discourse of blaming Moroccan immigration for any crime committed in Spain before even knowing its details in depth, as already happened with the crime of Mocejón in which an 11-year-old boy died.
