Artem Tuzov, executive director of the capital market department of the investment company Univer Capital, revealed the scheme of fraudsters with a duplicate bank card in an interview with the Prime agency.
As Tuzov explained, to make a second card, fraudsters can steal data, for example, from databases leaked into the network. However, more often criminals act pointwise, extorting information from the client himself.
In order to obtain the necessary data, the attackers introduce themselves as bank security officers who allegedly want to verify the information in the database. This way, they can receive a card number, expiration date and CVV / CVC code, as well as a password from a mobile bank, which will allow them to make purchases on the Internet. “While the victim has time to notice the outflow of money, the transaction is already going through, and it becomes very difficult to return the funds,” the expert warned.
In addition, fraudsters can change the main phone number to which the bank card is linked in order to withdraw money to other people’s accounts. In this case, duplicate cards can be used to conduct operations to deceive third parties.
To protect yourself from problems, it is important not to disclose your personal data to outsiders, Tuzov emphasized. If you have any suspicions, you should contact the bank’s hotline or one of the offices.
