More than 180 million euros of investment will mean the expansion of Metro line 5 to the Madrid-Barajas airport. The works will begin this spring, and will be a benefit for all travelers, more than 77 million, who use this suburban line.
Specifically, investment in ETA infrastructure will be 180.9 million euros. It will link the Osuna Alameda station with the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas International Airport. This Wednesday, the Governing Council has known the award of the works, which will begin in spring and will run for 30 months.
This extension will mean extending the network for 1.7 kilometers, to the L8 stop corresponding to the T1-T2-T3 terminals of the Madrid airfield, where an exchange station will be established with four platforms, two lobby and one surface in 5,000 square meters plant. The infrastructure will also have the installation of mechanical elevators and stairs.
This project will improve connectivity with the center of the capital and open a new entrance to the airport through the fourth most used of the network, 5, which transports more than 77 million travelers a year. Throughout 25 kilometers, it crosses 32 stations, including some in the center, such as Gran Vía or Callao and links with ten lines, in addition to the Opera-Príncipe Pío branch.
These works financed with European funds will benefit the more than 66 million people who have used this year the most important civil airport in Spain and third of the European Union and, especially, the more than 40,000 who work and reside in the vicinity of the L5.
