The border guards of Kyrgyzstan said that the forces of Tajikistan opened fire again on a number of its positions early Friday morning.
He added that clashes were taking place along the entire border and that Tajik forces were using tanks, armored personnel carriers and mortars.
In turn, Tajikistan accused the Kyrgyz forces of bombing one of its outposts and seven villages using “heavy weapons”.
Authorities in the Tajik city of Asfrah said a civilian was killed and three wounded.
Kyrgyzstan announced 11 injuries during the night.
The Bishkek government said the two countries’ foreign ministers had discussed the matter, but the border guards said two ceasefires had already collapsed.
And the Kyrgyz border guards announced that it is scheduled to meet the governors of the two provinces bordering the two countries at a border crossing point in another attempt to calm the situation.
Kyrgyzstan President Sadir Gabarov and his Tajik counterpart Emomali Rahmon will attend a regional security summit in Uzbekistan.
Cross-border clashes between the two former republics of the Soviet Union are frequent, but usually subside quickly, although last year they almost led to all-out war.
The two countries host Russian military bases and have close ties with Moscow, which this week called for a cessation of hostilities.
