A 21-second recording shared in the last few hours by Valle del Cauca journalist Jaime Dinas recalled the harsh situation experienced by former Colombian national team soccer player Henry Viáfarawho since retiring from the sport has experienced very difficult times.
In the record, a person in a state of indigence was seen wandering the streets of western Colombia. As Dinas hinted, Said person would be Henry Viáfara, who played three Copa Libertadores finals with América de Cali and was also part of the Colombian National Team in the 1980s..
“A shame to record this information, with a footballer that I interviewed and shared at the time (sic). Strength to his family and may the ‘Almighty’ give him the opportunity to get out of that darkness in which he finds himself and from which we must join forces to get him outDinah pointed out.
Hours later, he commented: “MARÍA DEL MAR, youngest daughter of Henry VIAFARA, contacted me and asked me to download the video that I posted on @JaimeDinas and immediately, together with Councilman Roberto Ortiz, we will begin the work and campaign to recover a human being who He deserves a chance at life.”

Without being clear as to whether the man in the footage was actually Viáfara, The truth is that the former soccer player has been suffering from economic and health difficulties for several years. In fact, some Internet users have expressed that the old glory of national soccer lives in the municipality of Dosquebradas, Risaralda, in a state of destitution.
The situation of Viafara
In an interview with ‘El País’, from Cali, Viáfara had stated in 2014 that he was experiencing a difficult situation in which he depended on the support that people gave him.
“For a few years I have been living with my mother in Villarrica, but everything fell apart when I separated from my wife. There were many disappointments and later, with bad luck, I fell into drug addiction. That was the final point. Later, when I retired from football, there came a time when I had too much time left over, I had nothing to do and I was already going to a farm, somewhere else, with friends, the rumba… From a person who was judicious to get to being lazy afterwards, anyone goes crazy. When I realized everything, I was already deep in vice, there was nothing to do“, he said at the time.
(Also: Piqué: the story of ‘revenge’ behind the photo with supposed ‘conquest’).
At the time, Viáfara said that he lived in Puerto Tejada (Cauca) and did not have a stable situation.
“I walk the streets up and down. Sometimes I collaborate with the Notary with some laps and he gives me food. I also dig around unloading the soda carts”.
Now, according to Dinas, Viáfara has already been contacted by municipal authorities. So far, no further details of his situation have been known. It is only hoped that he will receive the necessary help.
