It will be held tomorrow, Wednesday 7 August, at 10.30 am, at Casa Italia, set up at the Father Catelanin the Bois de Boulogne, on the occasion of the Paris 2024 Olympics, the event entitled “Father Henri Didon. A Dominican at the origins of Olympism”.
Promoted by the John Paul II Foundation for Sport, in synergy with the network of magistrates “Sport and Legality”, the initiative aims to analyze the figure of Father Didon who supported Baron De Coubertin in the creation of the modern Olympic Movement, offering an important contribution in the construction of the value model of sport, based on virtues and educational and social intentionality.
Didon, in fact, is the inventor of the Olympic motto Citius, altius, fortius completed with the word communiter (together, ed.) on the occasion of the previous Olympic Games held in Tokyo in 2021.
The event, moderated by the president of the John Paul II Foundation for Sport, Daniele Pasquini, will be divided into two parts: it begins with the presentation of the book Father Henri Didon: A Dominican at the Origins of Olympismpublished by Ave, in the presence of the author Angela Teja, sports historian, and Msgr. Emmanuel Gobilliard, bishop delegate of the French Church for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Then, there will be the launch of the “Together in Sport” games, scheduled for next autumn in a Roman penitentiary, during which inmates, police personnel and magistrates will compete together in a series of Olympic disciplines to celebrate the values of sport.
The event will be presented by Sergio Sottani, Attorney General of Perugia and president of the magistrates’ network “Sport and legality”, and Irene Marotta, head of the Fiamme Azzurre sports group.
