The European Commission has announced a selection of 47 strategic projects throughout the continent to promote and ensure its supply chain in terms of strategic raw materials, including 7 projects in Spain: four destined entirely to extraction, one to recycling and two others that combine extraction and processing.
The projects selected by the EU will allow to extract, process or recycle Copper, Wolframio, Lithium, Cobalt, Nickel and Metals of the Platinum Group. These, in turn, are located in Andalusia, Cáceres, Castilla-La Mancha and Galicia.
The 47 projects will have access to a total planned investment of 22 500 million eurosand will have a coordinated support between the Commission, Member States and Financial Institutions. Also, according to the commission, they will benefit from Simplified provisions for permits processing.
“According to the CRMA [la Ley de Materias Primas Críticas]the process of granting permits It will not exceed 27 months for extraction projects and 15 months for other projects. Currently, permissions concession processes can last between five and ten years, “explains the EC.
According to the agency, all these projects, in addition to contributing to the Safe Supply of EU strategic raw materials, comply with environmental, social and governance criteria, in addition to being technically viable.

Today we have identified 47 new strategic projects that, for the first time, will help us ensure our own internal supply of raw materials. This is a historical moment for European sovereignty as an industry power,” he said in this regard Stéphane SéjournéExecutive Vice President of Prosperity and Industrial Strategy.
