The European Union (EU) has spent 17 billion euros on Ukraine since 2014. This is a record amount, as no other country has received such a large investment, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell said at the Munich Security Conference. His words brought TASS.
His words came in response to a question from former Estonian President Kersti Kaljulaid about the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU.
“We must continue on this path, strengthen our ties and provide opportunities for reform. Of course, Ukraine still has a lot to do, because the reforms have not yet been completed. Ukraine is actively working, but it still has a very long way to go to success,” Borrell said.
Earlier on February 20, the head of the European Council, Charles Michel, assessed the prospects for Ukraine’s accession to the European Union. He proposed to develop ties and maintain the territorial integrity of Ukraine in response to a question about the possibility of admitting the country to the EU.
The Munich Security Conference takes place from 18 to 20 February.
