Since February 28, the European Union has banned aircraft of Russian carriers from landing, taking off or flying over the territory of EU member states. The corresponding document was released on Monday, February 28.
“Should be prohibited for any aircraft operated by Russian air carriers… or for any aircraft registered in Russia, or for any aircraft not registered in Russia, owned, chartered or otherwise controlled by any Russian person or entity person, organization or body to land, take off or fly over the territory of the Union,” reads the text of the statement published on site European unification.
On Sunday, February 27, it became known about a group of Russian schoolchildren stuck in a Paris airport due to the order of the French authorities to close the country’s skies for Russian aircraft.
On February 27, France banned flights over its territory for Russian aircraft. On the same day, several other countries closed the airspace for Russian aircraft – Germany, Italy, Sweden, Iceland, the Netherlands, Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Norway, Canada, Spain. Earlier, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Poland, the Czech Republic and Bulgaria also joined the sanctions.
The Federal Air Transport Agency reported that the issue of the export of Russian citizens from European countries is being worked out with representatives of the relevant departments. Russian airlines are ready to fulfill their obligations to passengers and deliver them home, the ministry assured.
