The third edition of the Al-Ittihad Ice Hockey Championship for men and women will begin next Saturday, October 5, after the success of the tournament in previous years, with the participation of 23 teams. The tournament’s competitions will continue until Saturday, October 12, at Al-Hili Al Ain Hall, and it is organized by the “Together We Can” company. Under the umbrella of the UAE Winter Sports Federation, and with the support of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi.
The tournament is expected to witness strong competition between the teams, due to the close technical level, and the intensity of competition will be increased by the different ice hockey schools for each team in an effort to win the title.
The 7-day tournament matches will be held in two groups for men and two groups for women, and it is expected that 66 different matches will be held throughout the tournament.
For his part, Juma Mohammed Al Dhaheri, Secretary-General of the Federation, stressed that the progress achieved by winter sports in the Emirates comes thanks to the continued support of the wise leadership, and the follow-up of His Excellency Dr. Ahmed Mubarak Al Mazrouei, President of the Winter Sports Federation, in implementing strategic plans to develop winter sports, He said: “Organizing this tournament aims to develop the game of ice hockey, and raise the technical level of the participating women’s and men’s teams, through continuous contact and creating a competitive environment for the players, wishing success to all teams in the tournament.
Khaled Al Habsi, director of the tournament, confirmed that all preparations for organizing the tournament had been completed in all technical, logistical or procedural aspects, and he harnessed all his capabilities to ensure its success, praising the continuous support of the organizing company, the Winter Sports Federation and the Tourism Authority, which achieved the success of the tournament and its development, in addition to the competitions. Men this year, and next year the organizing committee plans to add a junior tournament to become an annual ice hockey festival.
Fatima Sayyah Al Qubaisi, President of the company organizing the event, expressed her overwhelming happiness at the launch of the Federation Championship, stressing that the tournament will play a major role in raising the technical level of UAE players, whether men or women, in preparation for the upcoming tournaments, hoping that the tournament will be a launching point for achieving sporting achievements in the field.
