An older couple from Utiel (Valencia), Ana and Nasta, have met again with the agents of the Civil Guard that on Tuesday, October 29, they fought against the strong torrent of water from the DANA to save his life. Upon seeing them again, Ana tearfully recalled Corporal Fran’s words at that moment. “You told me ‘if you leave, I’ll follow“. The civil guard consoled her and hugged her: “But here we are both, have you seen how I was right?”
The couple, days after the catastrophe, approached the Civil Guard barracks to thank you for the work of the agents who saved their lives, a moving moment that has been immortalized in a video released by the armed institute.
It is about one of the first rescues that took place that day in the town, one of the first towns to suffer the floods. Around 1:00 p.m., the couple was trapped in their vehicle, Civil Guard sources have detailed. To reach them, The agents tied themselves to a rope and they crossed the torrent. Afterwards, they put them on a tractor and managed to get them to safety.
Utiel’s neighbor has insisted: “I have to say it somewhere, I have to thank all the Civil Guard that has helped me (…) that if they don’t come, I wouldn’t be here with my husband. “I have no words, I don’t even know how to explain it, but I will be grateful all my life.”
Thanks to the help of the field workers, who provided their machinery from the first minute and “took a chance driving it”, the Civil Guard could save dozens of people in the town in this Valencian town we were able to save dozens of people, the Civil Guard has explained. In the embrace between these neighbors and their rescuers”there is all the emotion of the harsh memory of that night”, that of Tuesday, October 29, which they will no longer be able to forget, stated La Benemérita.
In that hug is all the emotion of the hard memory of that night, that of the now unforgettable October 29, 2024.
