Emirati director Zainab Shaheen is participating with her film “Mountain Boy” in the Oran International Arab Film Festival, which runs from October 4 to 10, in the presence of films from several countries, including: Bahrain, Tunisia, Iraq, Mauritania, Syria, Lebanon, and Jordan. The Sultanate of Oman, Saudi Arabia, Libya, Sudan, Egypt, Algeria, and Yemen.
The festival witnesses the honoring of some famous Arab and international cinema, including Egyptian star Mahmoud Hemida, international director Costa Gavras, and Algerian director Mohamed Lakhdar Hamina.
The events of the film “Mountain Boy”, which represents the UAE in this festival, revolve around the exceptional story of Suhail, an Emirati boy who suffers from autism, but he defies societal obstacles and embarks on an amazing journey through the enchanting mountains of Fujairah, and seeks during this amazing and emotionally resonant visual adventure, accompanied by… His loyal friend Baraka, a greyhound, has to find acceptance and a family atmosphere, and the film is a deep exploration of honoring the entire human experience and understanding the many ways of life.
The film, whose director Zeinab Shaheen participated in a number of film festivals, was inspired by the book “The Boy Who Knew Mountains,” written by Dr. Michelle Ziolkowski.
The feature film competition includes “The Weary” by Yemeni director Amr Gamal, “Land of Transition” by Algerian director Anis Jaad, “The Deceived” by Syrian director Tawfiq Saleh, “Valley of Exile” by Lebanese director Anna Fehr, “Two Men, One Destiny” by Algerian director Mustafa Ozgun. “Bird of Paradise” by Tunisian director Murad Ben Sheikh, “Maryam’s Choice” by Egyptian director Mahmoud Yahya, “Black Tea” by Mauritanian director Abderrahmane Sissako, and other diverse films between documentaries, shorts and novels.
