Further deterioration of the flood situation in Sochi is not predicted. This was announced on Saturday, July 24, by Pavel Ivanov, head of the Central Administration for Emergency Situations of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Russia for the Krasnodar Territory, to Izvestia.
“Rescue and fire-rescue units, local government bodies work on the spot; in the Sochi City Administration and in the Main Directorate, the work of operational headquarters has been organized. There are enough forces and means, further deterioration of the situation is not predicted, ”Ivanov said.
He clarified that a section of the road and adjacent territories were flooded in the city. Reverse traffic has been organized on the highway; at the request of the population, targeted assistance is provided for pumping water.
Earlier it became known that for preventive purposes, power supply specialists de-energized transformer substations flooded as a result of river floods. In particular, the “Khosta” electrical substation was turned off.
To alert the population, siren-speech installations were launched, evacuation was not required.
On July 23, a heavy downpour fell in Sochi. As a result, the retaining wall and paving stones on the beach in the village of Loo were destroyed. According to the regional Ministry of Emergency Situations, the water level in the Matsesta and Khosta rivers has risen. It is known about the flooding of a road section in Khost and two retail premises in Dagomys.
The downpour in the city has already stopped. The Sochi administration noted that the water level in the rivers began to decline.
