The Youth Service of the Murcia City Council urges, through a request, the Music School of the El Palmar Musical Association “to cease the training actions and rehearsals that take place in dressing rooms 1 and 2” of the Young Space El Palmar. And, as LA VERDAD previously reported, due to the lack of classroom availability, the district's Musical Association School has been forced to rehearse and teach in the center's dressing rooms.
Likewise, it is communicated that “they must proceed to the removal of all the materials and instruments deposited” in these rooms, as well as “in the passage areas and other areas not enabled as warehouses, their storage being strictly prohibited in the rest of the rooms and facilities”.
“The available spaces are intended for associations that are youth,” says Sofía López-Briones.
The statement also “advises” that those responsible for the schools “take into consideration carrying out their activities in a center more in line with their requirements.”
«In the El Palmar Youth Space we do not have any more classrooms. The El Palmar Music Band, with its school, already occupies a large part of these classrooms, where they give 13 classes with different instruments and, in addition, they carry out their rehearsals,” explains Sofía López-Briones, councilor for Young Talent and Public Spaces, who considers that “the rest of the available spaces that we have are intended for associations that are youth” and remembers that “from the Municipal Board of El Palmar, also concerned about the situation of this band, they were offered at the time several alternatives between Those who are found move to the El Palmar Cultural Center or the San José de la Montaña Cultural Center in El Palmar. Options that “were rejected at the time by the band.”
After receiving this notification, Elia Valero, president of the El Palmar Musical Association, informs LA VERDAD that the association's first step will be to hold, urgently, an extraordinary meeting with the members of the board of directors, to assess the situation and decide the course of action. “We are not dedicated exclusively to this activity, we have our jobs, so it is not easy to be able to get together immediately,” explains Valero.
“With students from the age of 3, what more is needed to consider us a youth association?” asks Elia Valero.
Classrooms without classrooms
«Sofía López-Briones remembers that we have been offered other spaces but the El Palmar Cultural Center, the old Casino, was our previous location, which we stopped using because it did not meet the conditions. It was simply a room, without classrooms,” says the president about the proposed alternatives. «How do you organize an entire course with different instruments like this? The same happens with the San José de La Montaña Cultural Center, where there is only one space where parties, meetings and other activities are held. Furthermore, when they offered it to us, it was unconditioned. “They don't realize that we teach classes from Monday to Friday throughout the afternoon plus weekend rehearsals.” Furthermore, Valero defends that the Music School is a youth association: «With the age range that we have, from 3 to 80 years old, what more is needed to consider us a youth association? Enroll a newborn? », She concludes.
