Ukrainian troops shelled Donetsk, firing 10 shells with a caliber of 122 mm. This was announced on Saturday, March 5, by the representative office of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) at the Joint Center for Control and Coordination of the Ceasefire Regime (JCCC).
“Fire was recorded from the side of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (VFU) in the direction: the settlement of Vodiane – the city of Donetsk: 10 shells of 122 mm caliber were fired,” the statement says. Telegram channel representations.
A day earlier, Eduard Basurin, a spokesman for the DPR People’s Militia, said that Ukrainian security forces fired on Donetsk with Grad rocket systems, killing one woman and injuring 12 people.
On the same day, the DPR representative office in the JCCC reported that the Ukrainian security forces had shelled the city of Dokuchaevsk in the republic.
At the same time, the headquarters of the territorial defense of the DPR stated that since February 18, as a result of shelling by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (APU) in the DPR, 923 infrastructure facilities have been damaged.
In addition, according to the headquarters, 184 apartment buildings, 31 social facilities (hospitals, schools, kindergartens), 195 heating, gas and water supply facilities were damaged due to shelling.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special operation to protect the civilian population of Donbass. Then the press secretary of the President Dmitry Peskov clarified that the special operation had two goals – the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. He pointed out that both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
On February 21, Putin signed decrees recognizing the independence of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). Also, the President of the Russian Federation and the heads of both republics Leonid Pasechnik and Denis Pushilin signed treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance, including military assistance.
The head of state made the relevant decisions against the backdrop of the aggravation of the situation in Donbass that began on February 17. The DPR and LPR reported heavy shelling by Ukrainian security forces, including from heavy weapons. The republics announced a general mobilization and evacuation of civilians to the territory of Russia.
