People with arterial hypertension develop a more severe course of coronavirus infection. This was announced on December 5 by the chief physician of the Clinic of Professor Kalinchenko Leonid Vorslov.
“Roughly speaking, a healthy person has 5,000 receptors on the cell surface, that is, 5,000 viral units can enter the cell. And in a patient with arterial hypertension, there are 10 times more such receptors. And, accordingly, 50 thousand viruses can enter the cell. Most likely, he will get sick faster, and the coronavirus infection will be more severe, “he explained in an interview”Public News Service“.
The doctor also stressed that those who normalize blood pressure with drugs remain at risk, since the number of specific receptors remains unchanged.
At the same time, he noted that if hypertensive patients monitor their health, their chances of a mild course of the disease will increase significantly.
On November 4, scientists from the Berghofer Research Institute in the Australian state of Queensland concluded that people who are prone to heartburn are at higher risk of a severe course of coronavirus than those who do not experience such problems. Genes that trigger the development of acid reflux can affect the patient’s condition with COVID-19. So, scientists have found that gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) has common risk factors with coronavirus, such as obesity, hypertension, cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
Earlier, on August 23, a specialist in non-invasive ventilation of the lungs Pavel Kudinov said that people who are overweight are harder than others to tolerate coronavirus.
According to him, in a person with obesity, excess weight makes it difficult to breathe, especially when sleeping. As a result, breathing problems lead to impaired gas exchange in the lungs and a decrease in the amount of oxygen in the blood.
Russian authorities are urging residents to get vaccinated to protect their health and take care of their loved ones. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVak.
