Cardiologist Gavrilyuk: broken heart syndrome occurs against the background of acute stress
Takotsubo syndrome, also known as “broken heart syndrome,” usually occurs against the background of acute stress, said cardiologist Natalya Gavrilyuk. She explains the reasons for the development of this deadly condition and its symptoms. indicated in a conversation with KP.RU.
Gavrilyuk stated that “broken heart syndrome” is an extremely rare pathology. It is caused by prolonged nervous overload, severe psychological trauma, or personal drama that a person finds difficult to cope with. “Takotsubo syndrome is an acute pathology of the heart associated with spasm of its blood vessels. Unlike myocardial infarction, there are no primary problems with blood vessels,” the doctor explained.
According to the specialist, the lumen of the heart vessels narrows not due to cholesterol plaques on their walls, but due to a spasm provoked by a surge of the hormones adrenaline and norepinephrine against the background of acute stress.
