The most common types of cancer in Russia are lung cancer, breast cancer and some other types of malignant neoplasms. This was stated in an interview with Izvestia by the Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the National Medical Research Center of Oncology. N.N. Blokhin, board member of the Russian Society of Clinical Oncology (RUSSCO) Alexey Tryakin.
The most common malignant neoplasms in Russia are lung cancer, breast cancer, colon and rectal cancer, stomach cancer and skin tumors.
“In general, the incidence of cancer will increase, which is natural, because cancer is a disease of age. And the longer people live, the more likely they are to live to see their cancer,” he said.
The risk of developing a malignant tumor by the age of 75, he says, is about 23–25%.
“That is, every fourth person, if he lives to be 75 years old and does not die from other causes, will develop some kind of malignant tumor,” the expert added.
According to him, about 600 thousand people in the country get cancer every year, and half of the patients are cured.
