An effective protection against the Omicron coronavirus strain can be revaccination against infection in 4-5 months. This was told by the immunologist, general director of the contract research company “KEG”, candidate of medical sciences Nikolai Kryuchkov.
According to him, it is necessary to engage in revaccination in parallel with the vaccination campaign. But the vaccination in six months, he noted, is a very long time given the appearance of Omicron.
“With the previous strains, such a period was normal, but now it is best to carry out the procedure after five months, and for people with chronic diseases after four,” the portal quotes the doctor. Ura.ru December 11th.
As an example, the specialist cited the UK, which officially announced that the revaccination period was set for three months. Early revaccination gives a good titer of neutralizing antibodies, the specialist added.
“The scheme that was studied in South Africa to reduce the effectiveness of the vaccine was used for a double injection, without a booster, since revaccination is not carried out in the country,” Kryuchkov explained.
He continued that in Britain and the Federal Republic of Germany it was determined that after the booster, there was a minimal drop in the effectiveness of injections.
“That is, if a person was given two vaccinations and a booster, or he was ill and vaccinated, or vaccinated and got sick, then he received“ hybrid immunity, ”that is, there are many antibodies and enough neutralizing antibodies,” the immunologist concluded.
On November 29, in an interview with Izvestia, he said that Omicron probably appeared in the human body with immunodeficiency as a result of a mutation. The predecessor of this mutation, he says, is not Delta, but possibly the Beta line.
Michael Ryan, director of the WHO’s health emergencies program, noted that it will take several weeks to study a new strain to determine its infectiousness and its ability to cause severe disease.
The WHO designated the B.1.1.529 strain, found in southern Africa, with the Greek letter omicron on November 26. This variant of the coronavirus has a large number of mutations, some of which are of concern, the organization noted.
Russian authorities are urging residents to get vaccinated to protect their health and take care of their loved ones. Citizens are vaccinated for free. Five vaccines against coronavirus have been registered in the country: Sputnik V, which became the first vaccine against COVID-19 in the Russian Federation and the world, as well as Sputnik Light, EpiVacCorona, EpiVacCorona-N and KoviVak.
