Moscow’s chief transfusiologist, Andrey Bulanov, compared the effectiveness of the plasma of those vaccinated with those who had had the coronavirus. According to him, in the first case, the study showed more patients with a negative PCR test after administration. RIA News…
The doctor explained that from March to May, samples were taken in hospitals, where the plasma of vaccinated donors was used, 75 percent were negative tests, while in the second group – only 50 percent.
“Now we know that the plasma of vaccinated people is no less effective than the plasma of those who have recovered, including against the new strain. Thanks to the research, we have the opportunity to expand the pool of donors and invite vaccinated people to donations, ”Bulanov said. He added that the plasma of vaccinated donors is 70 percent more likely to show a high titer of antibodies than those who have recovered.
Earlier, Tatyana Gaponova, the chief freelance transfusion specialist of the Russian Ministry of Health, said that not all antibodies are capable of neutralizing coronavirus. According to the specialist, antibodies are in the blood plasma. On the basis of the test results, donors are selected for donation of anticoid plasma. The doctor emphasized that this method of treating patients with COVID-19 is quite effective in the early days of the disease.
