To cope with the discomfort when wearing a mask, it is worth doing breathing exercises, breathing deeply and slowly. This method was named to the Russians by Andrei Tyazhelnikov, the chief freelance specialist in primary health care for the adult population of the Moscow Department of Health, the “Moscow” agency reports.
According to the doctor, the discomfort has psychological reasons, as some people believe that it is harder to breathe while wearing masks. Tyazhelnikov clarified that an unpleasant condition may arise due to the fact that the mask hides the face of the interlocutor – the person does not see his emotions and begins to get nervous. The feeling of anxiety affects breathing, but a person cannot realize the real reason and blames everything on a mask.
Heavyweight also recommended not wearing the mask for too long to avoid discomfort. Protective equipment should be used in transport, shops and crowded places. If you need to stay in such an environment for a long time, you should change the mask every two hours, or do it when it becomes wet – in this case, the material accumulates microbes, makes it worse for air and makes breathing difficult.
Earlier, pediatrician Irina Dobretsova said that it is dangerous for children under six years old to wear masks, because their broncho-pulmonary system is insufficiently developed, which can make breathing difficult. This causes discomfort for children and makes it difficult to get oxygen outside, or can lead to sudden infant death syndrome, she said. The medic added that the masks expose children to a greater risk of infection because the child will touch their face with dirty hands. In addition, wearing it will create a greenhouse effect in the nasal cavity, which will cause bacteria to multiply more actively.
