Almost all of Spain has spent several days with very high temperatures, coinciding with an increase in the mobility of thousands of Spaniards willing to travel in a private car, and, of course, to use the air conditioning. And since the vehicle’s climate control works all year round, providing cold air in summer and warm air in winter, according to Sernauto’s ‘Choose quality, choose trust’ initiative, this type of system requires a
preventive maintenance at least once a year or, at least, every two years, hand in hand with a review of the entire system. In this way we make sure that everything works correctly and avoid major damage and costly repairs.
Especially since experts indicate that, with a temperature inside the car that is around 35ºC, the driver will react 20% slower than another whose vehicle is around 25ºC. An effect “similar” to driving with a BAC close to 0.5 g / l in the blood. That is why it is very important
keep the passenger compartment cool and ventilated of our vehicle.
In this sense, the Seat Technical Center has drawn up a list of the five most common mistakes we make when we use air conditioning and
some tips to optimize its use:
a mistake to put the air to the maximum: in summer the interior of a car parked in the sun can reach 60ºC, so the first thing to do is “open the doors and windows and ventilate the passenger compartment, for a minute, before activating the air conditioning”, he recommends
Angel Suarez, engineer of the aforementioned Technical Center. In this way, it is possible to “naturally lower the internal temperature”. Once ventilated, you can “enter, close the doors and windows and activate the air conditioning.” In half an hour you can recover 25ºC.
-It is a mistake to keep the air recirculation button activated since it “favors the windows to fog up.” Drive with the ‘Auto’ option turned on so that “the air flow is self-regulating, more homogeneous and more efficient in use,” says Suárez.
-It is another mistake not to activate the air, since putting it in will prevent it from fogging up when the outside temperature rises.
-Many times if we feel heat, we raise the air, and most of the time it is not a question of temperature, but of the direction in which the air circulates inside the cabin. To achieve an adequate distribution of the air, Suárez indicates that “the diffusers have to be focused upwards, not towards the face.” With this gesture, the air is distributed throughout the car and reaches all passengers evenly.
-The last mistake is to forget about maintenance. Like oil, tires or brake fluid, the air conditioning system also requires specific maintenance. In fact, it is recommended
change filters every 15,000 or 20,000 kilometers.
