The F1 Insider poll released today is the first of its kind to consider the views of people working in the paddock. Answers came anonymously from F1 teams, international brands and global media, and the goal was to better understand the views of those who closely follow the world championship circus.
The survey was conducted by London-based F1 sponsorship expert Crunch Communications, which works with a number of high-profile clients. One of the key points was to focus attention on the changes expected by those who work within the sport.
More than two-thirds of respondents said they wanted better action on the track, while half said they wanted Formula 1 to be broadcast on free-to-air TV.
In a separate question, related to the communication on the benefits of hybrid engines, two thirds replied that Formula 1 is not doing a good job in this regard. This view is in line with that of some manufacturers who believe that F1 missed the opportunity to better promote its green credentials when the new power units arrived in 2014.
The impact of COVID
While Formula 1 managed to organize a championship with 17 races last year, and remain hopeful of being able to play the 23 scheduled in 2021, the impact of the coronavirus pandemic should be felt for some time yet.
A third of respondents believe that it will take at least until next year for the commercial position of sport to return to that of the pre-Covid era, while 44% think that everything will return to normal no earlier than 2023.
Peter Secchi, director and founder of Crunch, who made the survey freely available, said: “We were thrilled with the number of responses and are delighted to share the results. It is clear from these responses that we all deeply love the sport. and most of us are true fans. “
“Teams, brands and media have played their part in shaping what is a fundamental message: sport is on the right path and the future is bright, but creative and expert hands are needed to provide proper activation of sponsorships.”
