The accused of the murder of Pedro and Mari Trini in their home in Sangonera la Verde testifies in the first session of the popular jury trial
“Ask yourselves if the fact that I don’t like someone is reason enough to convict them of murder.” In this way, the defense attorney, Juan José Castaño, questioned the popular jury, which is judging Antonio Pérez Coll from this Friday, the accused of killing his parents, Pedro and María Trinidad, 85 and 79 years old, stabbed at their house in the Murcian district of Sangonera la Seca on October 12, 2019.
The lawyer stated that his client is not an exemplary citizen, but in the investigation of the Judicial Police of the Civil Guard there is no direct evidence whatsoever that incriminates him. “The entire accusation is based on evidence and conjecture,” he asserted, while stressing that one, two or three people, “truly responsible” for the death of the marriage, “are out there, on the street and can kill again.” , he underlined as Antonio, his client, nodded his head, sitting next to him.
The lawyer, in his introduction, compared Antonio’s case with the ‘Wanninkhhof case’, in which Dolores Vázquez, a friend of the family, was convicted of the murder of the young woman from Mijas (Málaga). Some time later, it was shown that he was innocent, after the arrest of the British Toni Alexander King. “That is the worst face of Justice, putting innocent people in jail,” he concluded.
Antonio sits on the bench of the accused of the Provincial Court of Murcia in a trial that will last at least eleven days. The prosecutor, María Marta Sánchez-Mora Bey, indicated at the beginning of the oral hearing that there is an economic motive in the double crime and that the accused had a conflictive relationship with his parents for years due to the continuous demands for money. She requests for him the sentence of 15 years for each homicide, with the aggravating circumstance of kinship, three years for a crime of damages and compensation for his two brothers.
According to the public accusation, between 6:45 and 7:30 a.m., the defendant approached the vicinity of the house on Calle Salzillo, located at number 114 Sangonera la Seca, where his parents lived, entered it, and With the intention of ending the life of his parents, he went to his parents’ bedroom, took a knife that has not been found, but in any case it is a weapon with a cutting edge, a blade of al less than 21 millimeters wide, and he nailed it to his mother up to eleven times. Then, he went to his father and with the same intention of taking his life, he plunged the weapon deep into his left cervical region, causing his death immediately due to hypovolemic ‘shock’. Once the accused ended the life of his parents, he took a bottle of butane and with the head on and the safety open, he cut the rubber tube and lit a candle, causing a deflagration due to gas accumulation that caused multiple damages in the furniture, ceiling, glass and other elements of the house.
The investigation found no traces or biological traces in the house and on the bodies. The knife that killed Trini and Pedro was also not found. The main evidence against him is that he was at the scene of the crime at the time and day of the deaths.
Antonio recounted, in a letter sent to LA VERDAD, that that morning she traveled from Caudete, in Albacete, where she lived with her husband, to Sangonera la Seca, where her parents lived, and was in the vicinity of her parents’ house, in Salzillo Street, at the time of death. “I went to get cocaine.” A neighbor from Villena, to whom she owed money, took her there with the false promise of collecting a debt and that she would pay him with that money. She maintains that she went to a gypsy village near her parents’ home, bought the drug and returned to Albacete.
