Pressure is increasing in Haiti against acting Prime Minister Ariel Henry, who took over the country's executive after the assassination of President Jovenel Moïse and whom a large part of the population considers illegitimate. Henry clings to power, claiming that the insecurity situation prevents him from holding elections, but the opposition blames him for the growing spiral of violence. In fact, according to the United Nations, this January was the most violent month of the last two years in the country.
How to reestablish the territorial control of the State? Who and how can replace Ariel Henry? What responsibility does he have for the current situation? What support does he have within the country? How does the return of the former police officer imprisoned in the US, Guy Philippe, impact Haitian territory? Is the multinational mission led by Kenya coming? At what point is the investigation into Moïse's murder?
We debated it on France 24 with Sabine Manigat, sociologist, political scientist and research consultant at the Quisqueya University of Haiti, and with the doctor in Political Science Louis Jean-Pierre Loriston.
