Tebboune saluted, in a statement by the Algerian presidency, “the struggle history of Juliette Acumbera of European origin for the Algerian cause and against French colonialism.”
Juliet is the widow of the “Algerian Mujahid” Georges Acumpura, who died in 2012, the fighter who joined with his wife the ranks of the Algerian national resistance with the outbreak of the Liberation War (1954-1962), through the Algerian Communist Party.
Georges Acumpura was sentenced to death in 1956 after being accused of participating in the bombing of a police station in the Mouradia district of the Algerian capital, but the sentence was not implemented after Charles de Gaulle came to power in 1958 and the executions were halted.
Juliet Acumpura’s funeral will be held on Saturday at the Christian cemetery in the Algiers district of Bologne, where her husband is buried.
