Carlos ‘Gullit’ Peña was one of the most promising prospects in Mexican soccer a few years ago. The talented midfielder showed a high level with León and attended the 2014 World Cup with the Mexican National Team. His great level led him to Chivas de Guadalajara, a team in which he could not stand out. From then on, his career was downward due to extra-court situations, indiscipline and low level.
According to information from the Soy Fiera portal, ‘Gullit’ Peña may have reached another large Liga MX club when he was living his best moment as a professional. The Mexican midfielder, at the end of 2014, was able to arrive at Club América at the request of Gustavo Matosas, the Uruguayan coach who led La Fiera to the two-time championship.
Peña told this portal that there were some talks to get to the Eagles while Matosas was in charge of that club. “There was little talk about my arrival in America when he was there, but it was the subject of the managers who were in charge at that time, it did not happen,” said the current player from Antigua Guatemala.
In the interview, the 31-year-old player assured that Matosas is like a “second dad” for him and that he got the best out of him and I support him both financially, football and family.
The Mexican soccer player did not leave León until 2016, when he left for Chivas de Guadalajara. The level of ‘Gullit’ Peña fell drastically after playing for Guadalajara. Later he wandered through a large number of teams such as Rangers, Cruz Azul, Necaxa, CD FAS from El Salvador and Antigua Guatemala.
