A new beginning opens in the political history of the country and the mexicans We debated two fundamental questions: Do I want things to stay the way they are?either I want them to be different, for something to happen, that something changes the situation we currently live in? In other words, Do I want the people who govern us at this moment to have continuity (we give them the confidence to continue leading the country), or is it necessary for another group to come to govern us? I know we are annoyed by the whole political campaign, but we can’t get enough of understanding.
The answers seem simple, but obviously they are not. Our national problems are big. The challenges facing the country are not minor. Do we want a different way of doing politics or do we no longer want to go back to the way politics was done before the current administration? The dance of fools has ended. Now, It is up to us to decide on our own merits. We must not follow the impulse of those who feel they are owners of our opinions, fools who ask for the appropriation of our voice, the alignment of our spirit.
The choice presents us with the dilemma of giving “continuity to the new” or the interruption of the present to “return to the exercise of the power of the past.” Either way, the result will be different. Our desires, interests, but also our emotions, our tastes come into play in this dilemma. What motivates us to vote for one political project or another? We are responding to our own desires or we have allowed ourselves to be trapped by the control mechanisms that tell us how we should behave, what political option to choose. We decide for ourselves or we adhere to the beliefs and positions of others, without even questioning them.
Before the current administration, we could only imagine what it would be like. Create expectations. They could even manipulate us by drawing us catastrophic scenarios of what a government could be, not only of the left, but of the Andrés Manuel López Obrador. Now no one can fool us. At least, they can’t tell us. We have first-hand the pulse of this government. Today we all know what type of government he carried out, what are his strengths, his weaknesses, his successes, his failures. We can imagine a future, starting from real ground, knowing what happened in his administration. We can focus on the past, or think about the future of new leadership.
We listen to our voices, our desires, or we let ourselves be carried away by the sea of the media, which also has its inclinations. We only attend to our personal perspectives in an isolated and indifferent way, or we listen to the voices of others, of the community. I see only my wants and needs, or I also analyzed the needs of others.
Do I have good reasons to choose one political project over another? Or I let someone else reflect, I just follow them. I am choosing to satisfy my desires, or I acted for a good reason, because I seek to achieve good for myself and society, or because I seek to avoid evil. The current administration is doing good (or bad) to my desires and particular interests, to my tastes, or it is actually doing good (or bad) to the country, to our development, to our future.
Am I separating my likes and phobias so I can have a decision based on good reasons, or am I letting my personal tastes lead me before the real facts? They are reasons, or they are emotions, tastes, interests. Is it necessary to flee from any imminent danger to Mexico? If we consider that there is a risk, it must be named. Question it. Escape from the “spontaneous” opinions that appear in the media but are clearly programmed.
What things do we value about each candidate for an elected position? She is the right person to achieve it. We have elements to ensure it, or at least predict it, reasonably. We can affirm that our vote is a clearly intentional and conscious action. Or we just pretend we have a good reason.
What can we ask of the women and men who will go out to vote? Let them not choose out of mere whim, fear or hatred. Let them be clear about the good reasons they have for choosing one option or another. Let them know, at least internally, why we chose one candidate and not another. If we are clear about that, we cannot make a mistake.
Reflecting on our own desires, interests, emotions and tastes will not only allow us to better understand the type of country we want, but will also allow us to act at the right time (from our work, our position or trench), to contribute to that model. of nation that we want for ourselves and our children. Regardless of the result, the important thing is to establish a conscious citizenry, because it is this that builds the country daily, with its actions, in its daily activities. They are not the politicians.
We should not fear disagreement, discrepancies. Think that we will never be able to agree if we do not know what type of country the different political options want (how can we know, when there are projects that harbor totally contradictory and incompatible positions). That makes dialogue impossible. And we as voters must demand that our politicians really present their country’s project. What is the nature of the disagreements of the different positions? Not that they leave us stranded in their sea of petty and particular interests.
Many people are asked what is your loyalty to the party, to the candidate, to the project? It may seem important, but, personally, I am concerned about a deeper level of the matter: What is the loyalty of that candidate, party or project to our principles and values, to our norms, to our rights, to our society? What is my loyalty to those values and principles, to those rights? And considering not only the advantages and results for me, but for everyone. Exercise of rights for everyone, not just for a few.
It is necessary to think critically about our desires, tastes and interests. Find good reasons to choose one option or another. What do we want to obtain? How good are our reasons? Please, this July 2nd, escape the carefully timed Dance of Fools. Take a moment, question your desires, reasons, tastes and interests. And choose your.
