The great consumption warns about the entrenchment of unemployment and formally request the Government its “urgent” collaboration to be able to guarantee the proper functioning of the supply chain
The dairy industry announced late yesterday afternoon that it is forced to suspend its processing activity as a result of the transport strike that has been taking place in the last three days in Spain, according to the National Federation of Dairy Industries (Fenil ).
Specifically, the factories have seen the supply of the necessary inputs for the production of dairy products interrupted and also the transfer of the finished product to the distribution chains, for which the capacity for packaging and storage and management of a food that is highly perishable and essential for daily consumption.
According to Fenil, which integrates more than 60 companies in the sector and represents more than 95% of the national production of dairy products, this stoppage is causing “inevitable” social, economic and environmental consequences. It will mean the suspension of the collection of milk in livestock farms from this Thursday and, above all, it puts the supply of products such as milk and dairy products at risk.
This Thursday the Minister of Transport, Raquel Sánchez, meets with social agents and representatives of the professional transport associations with the aim of unraveling the protests and alleviating the situation.
In addition, the business associations that represent the value chain of mass consumption (ACES, Aecoc, Anged, Asedas and FIAB) formally requested the Government’s “urgent” collaboration in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the supply chain in the face of what they consider which is a recrudescence of pickets and other actions that prevent road freight transport from offering its services to companies in the sector and to society.
To this end, they appealed to the responsibility of the conveners of the transport strikes since Monday (minority organizations without the support of the National Committee for Road Transport) so as not to encourage acts of vandalism that are taking place at some points and to avoid doing pay citizens the problems that society as a whole is already suffering and that are a consequence of the current inflationary context and the complex international scenario. “This is not the time to paralyze the country but to work together in search of solutions,” they pointed out.
The increasingly belligerent actions of the conveners, with blockades in ports, fish markets, wholesale markets and logistics centers, is beginning to cause important problems for companies in the sector, such as the lack of supply in factories, difficulty in supplying points of sale and the paralysis of industries.
