On October 21, the Moscow Arbitration Court decided to prohibit Korean Samsung Electronics and its Russian subsidiary from importing and selling 61 models of Samsung smartphones, including Samsung Galaxy Z Flip, on the territory of the Russian Federation.
The ban was initiated by the Swiss company “Squin SA”, which opposed the use of the Samsung Pay payment service in Russia. According to the company’s management, the service violates the right to the invention of the Electronic Payment System, protected by a Russian patent, reports “RIA News“.
In total, 61 smartphones were included in the list of devices prohibited for sale. The models on the list have been in production since 2017.
In July, the Moscow Arbitration Court satisfied the claim the company “Skwin SA” to LLC “Samsung Electronics Rus Company” and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd for the use of the invention under patent No. 2686003 without the consent of the copyright holder. According to the text of the decision, “the court actually prohibits the operation of the Samsung Pay payment service in Russia, as well as the import of devices with its support into the country.”
At the same time, the court’s decision did not include a list of specific models prohibited for import and sale. In August, the plaintiff filed a motion indicating that the court had not fully considered the amended claims.
As noted in an interview with “Gazeta.Ru” Eldar Murtazin, a leading analyst at Mobile Research Group, also faces a ban on Google Pay and Apple Pay, as they use technology similar to Samsung Pay.
