The device will work until August 31 with boats, jet skis and ATVs
The Copla Plan, for Surveillance and Rescue on Beaches and Rescue at Sea in the Region of Murcia, starts with ten lifeguards from the municipal Emergency Service on the Lorca coast and on the Coy river beach where it will be operational until August 31. The mayor, Diego José Mateos, supervised the start-up of the operation on Monday, accompanied by the deputy mayor, Francisco Morales, the councilor for Emergencies, Isabel Casalduero, and the councilor for the Environment, José Luis Ruiz.
He explained that on the beach of the town of Puntas de Calnegre a first aid post has been established with a beach rescue coordinator, four lifeguards, an inflatable boat, a jet ski, a quad and an amphibious chair for people with reduced mobility.
The troops will have a basic life support ambulance from the Murcian Health Service, as well as an off-road vehicle equipped with rescue equipment and forest firefighting equipment.
In Calnegre cove, which has a watchtower with an assistance module, a first aid post has also been set up in the center of the beach made up of three professional lifeguards, who will have another amphibious chair. The river beach of Coy will have surveillance for the second consecutive year and will have a lifeguard and a vehicle.
The mayor stressed that there will be dynamic terrestrial surveillance in Calnegre with a lifeguard who will ride a quad along the coastline to Parazuelos, on the border with Mazarrón, and to La Galera beach, on the border with Águilas. Mateos recalled that last summer the lifeguards attended 153 incidents, of which 117 took place in the Calnegre cove, the one with the highest influx, 20 on the town’s beach and 16 on the Coy river beach.
