The concessionaire closes the Fuente Álamo municipal nursery due to lack of financial resources

The municipal service for reconciling work and family life in Fuente Álamo “is suspended on September 1 due to lack of financial resources,” as reported by the municipal registry of the concessionaire company, Larena Cooperativa, to the City Council. In this way, 89 minors from zero to three years will not be able to go to the municipal nursery for the time being.

In principle, the closure was going to take place on September 6, coinciding with the power outage notice announced by the electricity company that provides the service due to non-payment of bills. However, the suspension of the activity, stressed Larena’s spokesman, Luis Moreno, “has been advanced due to the lack of financial resources to provide the service with a minimum of quality, not to mention that the staff has not been paid for six months” .

In the justification sent to the City Council, Larena recalls that “it owes this merchant 98,062.11 euros since October 2021.” He adds that “the essential expenses have been covered with the fee money paid by the parents and with contributions from the company’s partners.” However, since May 2022 “parents pay the fees at the City Hall by imposition of the local government,” Moreno pointed out. Even so, she expressed her confidence that “the precautionary measures that have been requested in the courts will serve so that the City Council pays and the service can be resumed.”

For its part, the Consistory, through a statement, assured that in the face of “the repeated refusal” of the center to summon the parents for a meeting at the beginning of the school year, “it has communicated in writing the duty to maintain that meeting with all the fathers and mothers who have formalized enrollment in the child care center».

According to local government sources, “no other scenario is contemplated than Larena starting the course and providing the service.” In the coming weeks, he trusts that “management can be awarded to the winning company of the recent procedure, subject to the resolution of the contract with Larena that, in parallel, is being processed.”
